Biography

Hugh S. Fowler (24 July 1912 – 2 August 1975) was an American film editor. He spent virtually his entire career at Twentieth Century-Fox, beginning as an assistant editor and receiving his first full editing credit on Phone Call from a Stranger (1952). Over two decades he edited around 38 feature films, all Twentieth releases.

Fowler is noted for his work on Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) and The Seven Year Itch (1955), both featuring Marilyn Monroe, as well as Planet of the Apes (1968) and Patton (1970), the latter directed by Franklin J. Schaffner. His editing on Patton earned him the Academy Award for Best Film Editing and an American Cinema Editors Eddie Award. His final film was The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972), directed by John Huston. He also edited episodes of several television series.
