Biography

Menahem Golan was an Israeli film producer, director and screenwriter. Born Menachem Globus in Tiberias in 1929, he later changed his surname and worked in theatre and film in Israel before forming a partnership with his cousin Yoram Globus.[[1]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menahem_Golan)[[2]](https://jewishvirtuallibrary.org/golan-menahem)

In 1979 the cousins acquired the Cannon Group and built it into a major independent studio known for low- and mid-budget action and genre films. Golan produced dozens of titles including Cobra (1986), Over the Top (1987), Masters of the Universe (1987) and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987). He also wrote scripts under the name Joseph Goldman.[[3]](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0324875/)

Golan directed 44 films and produced more than 200 in total. He received eight Kinor David awards and the Israel Prize for Cinema. He died in Jaffa in 2014.[[1]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menahem_Golan)
