Biography

Otho Lovering was an American film editor. Born in Philadelphia in 1892, he began his career at Vitagraph Studios as a film printing foreman and became an editor in the 1920s. He later worked for Paramount Pictures and directed several low-budget westerns in the mid-1930s.

Lovering edited John Ford's Stagecoach (1939) with Dorothy Spencer; the pair were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing. He collaborated again with Ford from the early 1960s, editing The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), Cheyenne Autumn (1964), Shenandoah (1965) and 7 Women (1966). He had around eighty editing credits on feature films and television programmes.
