Biography
Franca Squarciapino is an Italian costume designer born in Rome in 1940. She is best known for her work in film, including the Academy Award-winning designs for Cyrano de Bergerac (1990).
She has designed costumes for numerous films, among them Colonel Chabert (1994) and The Horseman on the Roof (1995). Squarciapino has also worked extensively in theatre and opera, creating designs for major houses including the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna State Opera and Zurich Opera.
She frequently collaborated with production designer Ezio Frigerio, her life partner.
