Biography
John J. Campbell was an American cinematographer. He was born in 1950 in Ohio and was based in the Portland, Oregon area for much of his career. He died on 8 December 2019 in Portland.
Campbell served as director of photography on Gus Van Sant's Mala Noche (1986) and shared cinematography duties with Eric Alan Edwards on My Own Private Idaho (1991). He also worked with Van Sant on Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (1993). His other credits include Rough Magic (1995), Sisters (2006) and the documentary Alien Boy: The Life and Death of James Chasse (2013). He received two award nominations during his career.
