Biography
Shelby Gaines is an American composer, musician and writer. Born and raised in New Hampshire, he studied music at Brown University and began working in music production and sound design in the mid-1990s.
He frequently collaborates with his brother Latham Gaines as the duo GAINES, creating experimental scores that incorporate sound sculptures made from found objects. Their film work includes the score for Blaze (2018), original music for The Kid (2019) and Wildcat (2023), and both the score and co-screenplay credit on The Weight (2026). In theatre, the brothers received a Drama Desk Award nomination for their work on the Off-Broadway revival of A Lie of the Mind.
