Biography

Suso Cecchi d'Amico (1914–2010) was an Italian screenwriter. She contributed to the scripts of more than 100 films over a career spanning six decades and was among the first women to work in the profession in Italy. She helped pioneer the neorealist movement and collaborated with many leading post-war directors.

Born Giovanna Cecchi in Rome, she began screenwriting after the Second World War. Her credits include Bicycle Thieves (1948) for Vittorio De Sica, Big Deal on Madonna Street (1958) for Mario Monicelli, and a long series of films for Luchino Visconti, among them Rocco and His Brothers (1960) and The Leopard (1963). She also worked on Roman Holiday (1953) and Jesus of Nazareth (1977).

Cecchi d'Amico received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 1994 Venice Film Festival.
