Tati Gabrielle

The eyes do plenty of work before Gabrielle needs to move; her physical confidence is backed by martial-arts training. Her recurring work as Gaia in The 100 began in 2017, before her breakthrough as Prudence Night in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018–2020). As leader of the Weird Sisters, she gave an antagonist emotional depth, making the character worth watching beyond her capacity to threaten. We would like more parts to make use of that ability.

You (2018), which she joined as Marienne Bellamy in 2021, offers a useful place to watch her outside outright action. We were unsettled by the way Penn Badgley’s voice-over turns courtship into surveillance. With Sera Gamble as showrunner, the programme makes that discomfort entertaining, though its social satire is blunt and its plotting sometimes hurries past the questions worth asking. It is our stronger recommendation here: an entertaining thriller for those willing to forgive the script when it moves on too quickly.

Uncharted (2022), in which she plays Jo Braddock, makes a clear case for her physical commitment and stunt work. She takes the role of Jade, a childhood favourite of hers, in Mortal Kombat II (2026). The fit makes sense for a performer with her training, but the film gives us little reason to recommend it as an introduction to her. The fights blur together, Outworld looks unfinished, and the story amounts to links between finishing moves. Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage is worth watching, but that does not make this a rewarding vehicle for Gabrielle.

Gabrielle has said that she wants more grounded, nuanced character work, and we would welcome that move. We would not want to lose the physical assurance, but it need not be tested in another succession of fights. A part that lets her stay still and have a difficult conversation would be a reasonable next request.
