Biography
Thelma Schoonmaker is an American film editor. Born on 3 January 1940 in Algiers, French Algeria, she met Martin Scorsese while studying at New York University and edited his debut feature Who's That Knocking at My Door (1967). She has edited all of his films since Raging Bull (1980), including GoodFellas (1990) and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023).
Schoonmaker has received three Academy Awards for Best Film Editing, for Raging Bull, The Aviator (2004) and The Departed (2006). She has also won two BAFTA Awards for Best Editing. She was married to the director Michael Powell from 1984 until his death in 1990.
