Biography

Michael Kaplan is an American film costume designer. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and began working in the film industry in 1978.

His first feature credit as costume designer was Blade Runner (1982), shared with Charles Knode; the pair received the BAFTA Award for Best Costume Design. Kaplan has designed costumes for Fight Club (1999), Se7en (1995), the Star Wars sequel trilogy (The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019)), Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), I Am Legend (2007), Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011) and 65 (2023).
